A medieval place

I first spied this place whilst scouring google earth.

A shape in the fields stood out…

What was it?

Then to look up on a map…

A moated castle, the remains of an old Manor House…

I cycled over to Kings Hall to have a look and meet the landowner (its on private property). The landowner told me so many interesting things about this place. He pointed out a shapes and shadows in the adjacent field that looked, perhaps, like traces of other buildings/structures. He told me how the Home Guard had found some medieval pottery when excavating a bunker. Other finds on the site include lead ampullas, coins and a medieval ring. Although there are no surviving remains of the building above ground it is believed that stonework was taken from the building and used in the construction of All Saints Church, Holbeach.

I look forward to visiting again and taking in some more of the atmosphere. And perhaps a trip to Holbeach to have a look at the church…
